Im not sure if you've played around with drupals Open Atrium before but there is a handy little feature called shoutboxes, basically members can drop quick public comments onto a groups profile. I think this would be cool on user profiles... could easily have an approval cue to keep it clean too.

Im sure you prolly already thought of this but just wanted to add it in just in case :P

Cheers!

Re: Squak Box in profiles

It looks like someone has created a Shoutbox module for Drupal. Doesn't look like it supports shoutboxes on user profiles, however. I didn't check the issue queue... there may already be a request for the feature.

I'm pretty sure I understand what the Shoutbox is... but how would it differ from the user status section on someone's profile page? That system allows friends to post status messages on the profiles of their friends because it's integrated with the User Relationships module (and the receiving friend can remove the status update/message from their page, if they wish). It works a lot like Facebook's wall system, and that's sort of a shoutbox-for-profiles system, I think. What I really like (about user status messages) is the integration with User Relationships that only allows friends to post on the profiles of their friends (like Facebook)... I think that cuts down on potential spam (someone who would join the site and spam profiles for an hour or two could cause a problem that would take some time to clean up).

Let me know if I'm not thinking about it correctly or if I misunderstand the Shoutbox concept.

Yes that's exactly it .. the one from open atrium would only allow members of the given group to leave a message etc etc .. same thing nearly .. lol I didnt realize all that other functionality was in the user status thing.. Dohh! Seriously nice module :)
